The village of Tolpuddle is situated 2 miles east of Puddletown and is considered the birth place of the Trade Unions.

In 2009 the village completed the setting up of a children’s play area and wildlife zone at Orchard Meadow near the centre of the village. This was the culmination of nearly 7 years work and the history of the site and future proposals can be followed on

The resurfacing of the basketball area and provision of a dedicated petanque area is now finished and the local community are planning to hold a Fun Sports Afternoon for all ages on Sunday 27th October at Orchard Meadow to celebrate the opening of the improved facilities. There will be basketball, petanque and other sports competitions, with coaching, prizes and free refreshments.

In Autumn 2012 we had a great turnout of local people helping to maintain Orchard Meadow. This year – be part of it.

On the following Sundays, we are intending to hold community volunteer sessions to help tidy up Orchard Meadow and ensure it remains looking good.
